First couple video after getting my camera 2 months back. Shot near the airport in Penang, Malaysia. Thanks to Angela and Jovi for the participation and esp. to Angela who had to run quite a bit here and there – chuan lo….. and she runs sipek fast wan. And sumore they had to do “acting”, it ain’t easy lo. I think Angela did a very good job in fleshing out a “moody” face. haha.

We were extremely lucky becoz once we wrapped up shooting, the skies opened and let loose what it was holding up all the while we were on the field. And there was the element that I most wanted – wind. We had lots and lots of it, and lots of unkept hair! Not very often do we get plus size wind in Penang lo. So, again, luck was on our side. Thank God.

On the post processing side, my “measly” 3Gb of RAM was waay insufficient to do a minutes worth of full rendering in 720p, 1080p is like running with ball and chain. so I had to edit in 5 parts, render them in Premiere and merge all of them, with the song in one final “mending”. Thanks to g3k for recommending me handbrake to reduce the size of the video to 720p. :)

I hope this first time video-ing with a rough storyboard is presentable. All the other storyboarded projects, mostly, are still slideshows made into music videos. This is one of the first being shot, edited and final output in HD. Pretty scary with the details being clearer, mistakes can be spotted easier. And in directing is scary stuff – unlike stills, which the facial expressions need to be spot on for only one frame. Video is a whole new ballgame – acting needs to be in a series of movements which needs to be doing something for a reason to progress a shot. Gosh. Sweat. I respect the Spielbergs and the Tarantinos for ability to direct a whole platoon of people.

For a couple video, I guess this video is a bit different from what is seen most of the times of happy, smiley faces running around as the one I did for my own wedding. A real relationship, as we know, is not all gloss and candy. haha. With this, I wanted to present a bit more reason to a relationship, where at times of loneliness and sadness, our loved ones will always be there – being there physically or spiritually, we can always feel safe.

We sure had fun doing it, haha, and on a personal side, I hope the experience I learnt from this virgin 5d shoot, will make the next project a bit better.

For techies : Canon 5d MkII, 50mm f1.8, hand-held-shaking included. haha.

Ewe Lim & Li Chen SDE

September 30, 2009

When the morning started with such wonderfully deep blue clean skies, one will feel it was going to be a great day – and it was. The relax going nature of the wedding was a welcoming change with the groom leaving quite late to fetch the bride and yet, everything went smoothly as planned. Upon reaching the bride’s house, I could see that the “chee mui’s defense” was quite easy to break through if the guys decided to push n shove but they didn’t and played every game that was given, sportingly…… until they decided to push n shove….. and as they did, it was breached rather easily. hahaha… I’ve never seen a groom moved so fast up the stairs!

We were fed to the brim by the couple as well as their parents with wonderful food and especially the super tasty “too-thor-t’ng” (pig intestine soup), gosh, heaven la! Me and hayashi eat until bloated, like pigzzz.

Enjoy this Same-Day-Edit of their wedding as we witness the matrimony of a “dashing” (no pun intended) Ewe Lim and his really beautiful bride, Li Chen.  With these two, I can put a “yellow smiley badge” on them, becoz they sure smile n laugh a LOT! This SDE slideshow is with collaboration with hayashi (huann chin).

Ray & Tracy SDE

September 20, 2009

Ray has been my friend for the last 13 years this year, having been very “siao” (crazy) colleagues for a good 5 years before he ventured out and have been in contact since. Then one find day, he dropped the news that he was getting married after a very very long courtship with Tracy. I just knew her as Mrs.Lai Peng. kakaka… a very youthful, happy, full of laughter couple… and photogenic lads.

The flow of the events of the day went by extremely smooth with the church nuptials ending exactly at 12.30pm. Very very early! That’s why there was time to do a SDE (Same Day Edit) slideshow. Even the dinner ended at 10.30pm sharp, hahaha. My fren there is a very good planner.

The SDE slideshow is a collaboration with Hayashiartz.com.

Congratulations to Ray, chap-chap boy and Tracy!! Have a loving and enduring marriage.
