weather forecast mentioned a dull cloudy morning and it was accurate. demit. After the walk, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/hotel-beniya.co.jp\/en\" target=\"_blank\">Hotel Beniya<\/a>&#8216;s breakfast was a welcoming re-load with a sumptuous spread. Japanese breakfasts tend to be low in fat and oil and we really love it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-WSTPz7Q\/0\/M8gKPQTnrCGHrncSnK7jjKmwwppRdvzVkB3SZvDqs\/X3\/i-WSTPz7Q-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Quiet lakeside town in the morning. Later it got abit bustling with the traffic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-5bxfDQx\/0\/LQLgGs3jqTGMjSb8LxH4VKh8cKvL2vnMmhKhxxHbv\/X4\/i-5bxfDQx-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Healthy choices and yet so good! not surprising, we were one of the &#8220;youngest&#8221; in the dining hall<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Today is going to be another travelling day by train from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/kytQtTpifoDMsDRF8\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/kytQtTpifoDMsDRF8\" target=\"_blank\">Kami-suwa Station<\/a> to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/K9QWfL3E1D7Ko5xj6\" target=\"_blank\">Shizuoka Station<\/a> via a stop at <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/pxJu8147UZCGxxEr7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kofu Station<\/a> with a total of 5000yen &#8211; which we bought from the ticket machine, thankfully we got it right. The price is inclusive of a) basic train ticket and b) reserved seating for both trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-wKcmRQn\/0\/NMntkVHjfZDnQGGQpkXQpjjTBwbCCwB3VxSKQqnFK\/X3\/i-wKcmRQn-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kami-suwa station area. One of the oldest, opened at 1905<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We boarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Azusa_(train)\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Azusa_(train)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Super Azusa E353<\/a> Limited Express which had a tilting rolling stock and a sleek looking front. A rolling stock minimize the tilting effect and ensure a smooth ride for the passengers during high speed corners &#8211; a unique trait amongst trains. This is the second time we sat in this model since the Tokyo-Matsumoto (older E351 model) trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-G4xf9jP\/0\/MqDWgvrgV2XWz6PzKsbh386Rw22Mzrf7XXtdzS2T9\/X3\/i-G4xf9jP-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Super Azusa E353 Limited Express &#8211; with rolling stock, 2nd time experiencing this train<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Just a short 1 hour plus ride, we reached Kofu town &#8211; we went outside the station for a walkaround, reminiscent of our trip to this town 9 years back. After rest kau-kau, we purchased bento boxes at Kofu Station to stuff ourselves for our next 2hour plus train ride on the slower Limited Express Fujikawa to Shizuoka 373 EMU. We normally will purchase bento box for a ride that lasts more than 2 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-FFLRGsx\/0\/NSpwCP52Fk2NCF5HPvQrjfwsB3KKTTdFjzBJ9nTBk\/X3\/i-FFLRGsx-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kofu town. Not exactly the best &#8211; just felt nice to have a meal during the ride<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once we reached Shizuoka Station, we proceeded to the JR Central Office to exchange and activate our <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/touristpass.jp\/en\/fuji_shizuoka\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mt. Fuji-Shizuoka Area Tourist Pass Mini 3-day pass<\/a> (Adult: \u00a56,500 \/ Child: \u00a53,250) we bought at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klook.com\/en-MY\/activity\/2816-3-day-mt-fuji-shizuoka-area-mini-jr-pass\/?campaignid=21201269018&amp;adgroupid=161762385352&amp;targetid=dsa-2305260447784&amp;matchtype=&amp;device=c&amp;creative=696935414107&amp;extensionid=&amp;keyword=&amp;loc_interest_ms=&amp;loc_physical_ms=9066703&amp;network=g&amp;utm_content=campaignid_21201269018_adgroupid_161762385352&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw8--2BhCHARIsAF_w1gxe9V7RSmb591TtzutL8qqXFiWXypRe-8-M8v0QpkfP922KpPIAY9MaAg3jEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Klook<\/a>. We purchased 2 sets for 6-day use around Shizuoka\/Fuji region. This is a very recommended pass coz it covers quite a large area and it is relatively cheap compared to the other passes. The distance to the hill-top hotel is a 30mins van ride thru quiet and windy roads. Upon reaching the summit, we can see the sun setting fast (yes, it took us almost a whole day), so quickly did our check-in at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndhl.jp\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nippondaira Hotel<\/a>. Interesting part is the hotel lobby had a small Malaysian flag amongst Japan and Taiwan flags &#8211; i reckon any new guests had their country flags on display for check-in day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-fWhBSDv\/0\/LXQ7jdtWC858VhDQxSDhc2nTwz6fGZGqFLXg4sfGN\/X3\/i-fWhBSDv-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Road view of Nippondaira Hotel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-GmqwSN8\/0\/MxBHLnW4mN3mHtDnSWDnd46QDxZWxV3LZHnsrmdTx\/X3\/i-GmqwSN8-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The view offers a panaromic view of Mount Fuji&#8230;&#8230;.erm&#8230;. not today, sucker. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-DtjcdxF\/0\/KzhfszXkCnC4Nbwdz8nSgfvDn46v4BPP756hg8hVx\/XL\/i-DtjcdxF-XL.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">What we&#8217;re suppose to see on a clear day<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We literally dropped everything in our room and brisk walk to nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/exploreshizuoka.jp\/en\/blog\/nihondaira-yume-terrace-enjoy-a-360-degree-panoramic-view-of-the-sacred-mountain-mt-fuji-and-the-land-of-the-legendary-yamato-takeru-from-the-observation-corridor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nihondaira Yume Terrace<\/a>, a free observatory designed by the famous japanese architect, <a href=\"https:\/\/kkaa.co.jp\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kengo Kuma<\/a>, which offers 360 degrees panorama of south Shizuoka. I&#8217;ve visited quite a bit of his work &#8211; those that I loved visiting which are mostly not the famous ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-ZhZJdtZ\/0\/MsVKGg5VSjHZ2K26th5dG9kFm6nTKwHv9XxHRJmRZ\/X3\/i-ZhZJdtZ-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Walking up to Nihondaira Yume Terrace hastily<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As the sun slowly descended behind the mountains, the surroundings were shrouded with brilliant golden yellow &#8211; which was so poetic and beautiful. Back at the hotel, we decided to have abit of &#8220;atas&#8221; dinner but the most affordable restaurant at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndhl.jp\/en\/service\/garden-lounge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Garden Lounge, Nippondaira Hotel<\/a>. The dinner set was extremely satisfying although the portion was not much. It was a rainy morning with 0-view of Mount Fuji when we made our way down to Shizuoka City in the hotel van.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-st37pdS\/0\/NCfdxdNJ9hnfpsPFDB3np3X2tbsswvTCxNbmtqRtQ\/X3\/i-st37pdS-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Capital of Tamiya\/Bandai plastic model kit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We loitered around while waiting for the shops to open when we stumbled upon a small bakery, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/vSEjSGY2F44PxJQSA\" target=\"_blank\">Iroha<\/a>, to purchase some scrumptuous bread for our breakfast. Then we caught an early lunch at the nearest <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/wBZmczEksFxyHWgTA\" target=\"_blank\">Matsuya Shizuoka<\/a> branch, their basic beef bowl is a must have for me in every trip. We went on to purchase our unbranded travel bag at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/V8VLV5ZBFBepKg4v8\" target=\"_blank\">Don Quoite Shizuoka<\/a>, which was a large store with quite a number of selection before sitting in <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/xQQiDjAFTVq93dFcA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nana&#8217;s Green Tea Cafe<\/a> for green-tea stuff &#8211; since we&#8217;re in green tea capital of Japan which is Shizuoka perfecture.
