Then our fan started to move. Electricity is back! yahooooo!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water was also running and we had our bath at 1am. Charging our devices &#8211; we promptly went to bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travels\/Hokkaido-2018-ORI\/Hokkaido-Blog-2018\/n-ZbQ833\/i-jZXcWnJ\/0\/a5e596f1\/XL\/i-jZXcWnJ-XL.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption>Our drinks\/dinner\/supper\/breakfast\/bath water in our room after the electricity came back<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next morning, we went down to get some breakfast. The hotel kitchen only had curry rice. Lo and behold &#8211; it was the BEST curry rice ever!! \u2026.at the most unexpected place. Coupled with hot black coffee, bliss. Kitchen refused our payment saying it was on the house ! Wu sim (got heart).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-vh9rNdk\/0\/e64dc5db\/X3\/i-vh9rNdk-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption>one of the best curry rice ever.. simple only<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Checking out, Sun Hotel Wakkanai again refused our payment saying it was their privilege to help us out in this situation. Service was not sacrificed even though it was complimentary. That is Japanese hospitality in a nutshell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-6whKjBf\/0\/c7252765\/X3\/i-6whKjBf-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption>Sun Hotel Wakkanai has since closed during the covid outbreak. Thank you Hotel!! <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We were out on the streets again\u2026 and had to go kacau our friendly tourist officer again for some help. We learnt that the transportation situation might be longer than expected since trains and rental cars were grounded. Limited buses still run but only to few selected places. We even contemplated taking the bus to some far flung place called Omu (East Hokkaido). Unsure of the future, we decide to stay in Wakkanai till the transportation system gets sorted out. Cancelling all our other hotel bookings, we booked 3 nights at <a href=\"https:\/\/hoteltrunk-wakkanai.jp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hotel Trunk Wakkanai<\/a> just along the coast and will just go with the flow. It is time to find out more about our new home, Wakkanai town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-wDgq23x\/0\/2d8cce28\/X3\/i-wDgq23x-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption>Hotel Trunk Wakkanai &#8211; Nice window view with the breakwater dome just below<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Using google maps, we surveyed areas of interest within walkable distance. To our surprise, there were quite a few. We started with the closest being Wakkanai Park. Walking from our hotel to the small summit, wee passed thru lots of quaint homes, quiet temples and foraging deers &#8211; it was a nice and relaxing stroll. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-q6WVH56\/0\/2c06d2f5\/X2\/i-q6WVH56-X2.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-m2nQRM2\/0\/cc4c0601\/X2\/i-m2nQRM2-X2.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-f9HDNvr\/0\/87ccf96c\/X2\/i-f9HDNvr-X2.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The summit of <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/R5x5yW31FSQXMG4w9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wakkanai Park<\/a> offers an amazing view overlooking the town and clear blue seas. Unknowingly we even pass <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/8oWfPUvvKxcDTsLG6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hokumon Temple <\/a>which we didn\u2019t know was on the Top10 place to visit in Wakkanai. Devoid of humans, it was tranquility and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-H2G5bpZ\/0\/2c66c26a\/X2\/i-H2G5bpZ-X2.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-DMksnx6\/0\/93173362\/X3\/i-DMksnx6-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption>Hokumon Temple &#8211; a must visit apparently but we didn&#8217;t see a single soul<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-rGhHGqz\/0\/6a89f7ff\/X3\/i-rGhHGqz-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption>Back to the city&#8230; still lack of humans<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After reaching town, we went to a restaurant, <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/BkpUk4PMTKK9GfcMA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yumehiroba<\/a>, just inside an orange building just next to the train station for some food. We had sashimi but it was not very fresh (Japan standard) and their restaurant setup seems to be catering for tour groups that grab n go. So not really recommended although the presentation was quite good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-H2tVmrD\/0\/ca2f823b\/X3\/i-H2tVmrD-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption>not that good<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With that little adventure, the day ended.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shortly after midnight, we were woken up by an announcement speaker from the station (which kept repeating).
