Again, Mount Fuji was a no-show as we bade goodbye to the hotel. Fuji-Shizuoka Area Tourist Pass Mini<\/a>&#8221; to take a 1-hour train ride to Fuji City being Super Hotel JR Fujiekimae Kinenkan as our base for the next 4 nights. It was chosen because it is only 5mins walk from the station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-DfLhp44\/0\/L8JqRMHJFZc9R86nFKg9RS33j2NGbfCrggwf7B9Vd\/X3\/i-DfLhp44-X3.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A very popular standing ramen on the platform at Fuji Station<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-J7zDjmS\/0\/LsPKFx88jvpWfKdQLzHJpjTmN5tTFgXj7L2bwrMrd\/X4\/i-J7zDjmS-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Super Hotel JR Fujiekimae Kinenkan &#8211; friendly staff . small room but recommended!! 9\/10 <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klook.com\/en-SG\/activity\/2816-3-day-mt-fuji-shizuoka-area-mini-jr-pass\/?klc_l1=display&amp;klc_l2=google&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_content=campaignid_21664370152_adgroupid_&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw99e4BhDiARIsAISE7P8p4CaMXg5biolLj0e-RbPHtTjhBNEIBTumYAmhoKat4167Q82uccIaAqPLEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JR Mt. Fuji-Shizuoka Area Tourist Pass Mini<\/a> IMHO is super worth it if travelling around the Fuji Five Lakes to as far as Toyohashi\/Hamamatsu. The downside is no shinkansen &#8211; so it is best to plan only short trips with a &#8220;base&#8221; inbetween (like us) or use it as a cheaper alternative to travel long distance between 2 towns. The frequency of trains are quite acceptable but the speed is not as fast obviously so need to plan around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After dropping our bags at the hotel, we headed to Atami &#8211; without prior planning on what to do there &#8211; just play by ear. Atami, known for being an onsen town, has a free public ashiyu (foot bath) for those tired feet. A stone throw away is a <a href=\"https:\/\/g.co\/kgs\/XmvCFLC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Atami Heiwadori Shotengai<\/a> (shopping street) with an assortment of eating outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-jhFtLCX\/0\/LR9DX9XzTpspRNC9n4XMxpDm7MXSk9HvdNQLtBzFR\/X4\/i-jhFtLCX-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The packed shotengai (shopping street)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-6Cm2Q89\/0\/MHHqQ9nrhDxzzwDzDJG33c9tdWmcCDfcR7Vf4tN8V\/X4\/i-6Cm2Q89-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The super popular Atami Maruten &#8211; cheese sticks with assorted toppings &#8211; octopus is recommended.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who plan to come Atami to walk, be prepared for alot of slopes and narrow roads as the town is built on a very hilly geographic landscape. Our destination was Atami Sun Beach nearby, so on the way, we just stopped by random shops that pique our interest for a look-see. We lingered inside a wonderful traditional japanese confectionary store (<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/vPNqHtAcneswa9YH8\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/vPNqHtAcneswa9YH8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u77f3\u821f\u5eb5 \u71b1\u6d77\u5e97<\/a>) to savour some of its delicious produce. Recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-gTHJ74B\/0\/NhB4BxXB8Zf4jCjJKHz62JjVkmw33T9XXNmd2p4Rs\/X4\/i-gTHJ74B-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Narrow n hilly streets of Atami<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-LbGWkHH\/0\/MZMBLr7JnBsM93b5FFpvN24bJwp3T6Sc4TdcDx89b\/X4\/i-LbGWkHH-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u77f3\u821f\u5eb5 \u71b1\u6d77\u5e97 japanese confectionary store &#8211; with construction view<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-9W2fZm6\/0\/M7LdWWNSFZv7CXQMMPRvX6RwPhmRkqGsLpsh4QmHr\/X4\/i-9W2fZm6-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The green-tea stuff are delicious &#8211; I really dunno what I&#8217;m eating<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After the short rest, we stopped by a reli good coffee shop (affordable too) at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/KfawW45XzdnZJuSb9\" target=\"_blank\">Quarto caffe bar<\/a> with friendly barista and just next door, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/UMM8Y1MzrBGwZbTJ8\" target=\"_blank\">La Doppietta<\/a> provided a sweet escape with home-made ice cream. Both are recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-d9pdjmX\/0\/K6k6kjsK62fCBdRsLcwtS9gpgk5BRmcMZF6scq9gn\/X4\/i-d9pdjmX-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Chatty barista that knows abit of English at caffe bar Quarto, to the right is La Doppietta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-2H235Gb\/0\/MkSGjC76VpzWG5k5CF6TQzff6hNzNxpBhFwbkWTQR\/X4\/i-2H235Gb-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">La Doppietta ice cream &#8211; dem good!!! creamy n cold<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As we were nearing the beach, the cold winds were freezing my ice-cream holding hand, I had a hard time finishing it \u306f\u306f\u306f. The skies were &#8220;murky&#8221; and maybe just maybe made <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/gSLWL71BghBLdET56\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Atami Sun Beach<\/a> scene quite drab. But honestly, there are much much better beaches in Japan. The buildings and boat docks did not exactly enhance its beauty either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-T7zD6QR\/0\/KGk59qNJ3zC5PXxnfQkMfHmNftRMGSVFvkKJ6sqZM\/X4\/i-T7zD6QR-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">erm.. not much of a &#8220;sunny beach&#8221; vibe&#8230; <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-95Tf5hf\/0\/KvbPz5HLKRdZ4SVPRWSXN2PDwJN4cTQx484pfZDBr\/X4\/i-95Tf5hf-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The drab colors did not deter visitors tho.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/photos.smugmug.com\/photos\/i-X34scqM\/0\/MmMHX2wz9dX4hkSrdPV6bhZzwDMZhrvVcXGFpPZHF\/X4\/i-X34scqM-X4.jpg?w=780&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lots of mooring boats and selfies<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, Atami feels like a mini town surrounding a body of water, with the buildings choking the tiny beach area. Maybe the town fits a different demographic or maybe we just need a few more days to feel the town &#8211; but it really was not for us.
