Wah. Finally my little island got title after years of lobbying for it to be included. CONGRATULATIONS. Tho we got it under a new governance, kudos should also be given to the previous leaders for their efforts. I really hope the zone is properly managed and not like “Hey, we got Heritage site listing, let’s make a 5-star hotel cum MEGAmall cum “One-Stop Destination” (u know these silly acronyms given) for the tourist in the zone”…… oh puleez, don’t. I hope NOT to see these things happening – I’m sure tourists who visit Penang did not come here for the purpose to visit a “MEGAmall” or some shiny-steel-cladded building which has no sense of belonging in the Heritage context. They have better and cleaner ones from where they’re coming from. One thing that is sorely missing is COORDINATED public transportation and STANDARDIZED signages. I dearly hope this will happen soon… at least start from the signage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
