Ah….. 4th year I’ve attended this annual Japanese event in Penang… and this time something is missing tho… and gladly so, RAIN. And this year, i reckon, has the highest ever visitor count. Yes, there were A LOT of people. The foodstalls were better organised, tucked away from the field. BRAVO to the organisers! This made more space for people converging around the big stage in the middle of Fort Cornwallis Field. The BEST BEST part is all walks of life, came and thoroughly enjoyed the colorful event. There were surprises in the schedule, which was more varied, with a troupe from Okinawa making it’s appearence this year. There was slow Okinawan number with traditional costumes with very Geisha-looking makeup, followed by a vividly brash drum performance with high leg kicking and energetic jumps. It was a celebration which ended with a fireworks display – tho i left due to headace. Wah. cannot tahan liao.

Anyway, enjoy the pics this year — i’ve added a “film” touch, hence the darker tones and heavier contrast.

  1. Nice coverage bro. Looks like the event was a lot more spectacular and energetic in Penang than in Shah Alam. Great PP work too :)

  3. eric… Thanks a lot, eric. This is by far, the BEST n varied Bon Odori in my 4 years of attending this event. The weather was immaculate n the inclusion of Okinawan dance was a good move.
